Dau Enaid, Un Taith
….Dau Enaid, Un Taith (Two Souls, One Journey)
This project was an exchange of culture, language and professional development for project staff and community musicians whereby we learned how different countries used music to engage with their communities and foster social change. Funded through the Welsh Government’s Taith Program, the project was about the sharing of ideas and best practice, also exploring how different countries with minority languages, used song writing to support the survival of their language and culture. We worked collaboratively with our global partners to observe the systems they used to engage with their young people and communities and thus, we shared ours and built a strong network for the future. Here are some of the highlights from each of the visits:
..Dau Enaid, Un Taith
Roedd y prosiect hwn yn gyfnewidiad o ddiwylliant ac ieithoedd ac roedd yn ddatblygiad proffesiynol i staff y prosiect a cherddorion cymunedol lle dysgon ni sut roedd gwahanol wledydd yn defnyddio cerddoriaeth i ymgysylltu â’u cymunedau a meithrin newid cymdeithasol. Wedi’i ariannu drwy Raglen Taith Llywodraeth Cymru, roedd y prosiect yn ymwneud â rhannu syniadau ac arfer gorau, hefyd yn archwilio sut roedd gwahanol wledydd ag ieithoedd lleiafrifol, yn defnyddio ysgrifennu caneuon i gefnogi goroesiad eu hiaith a'u diwylliant. Buom yn gweithio ar y cyd â’n partneriaid byd-eang i arsylwi ar y systemau a ddefnyddiwyd ganddynt i ymgysylltu â’u pobl ifanc a’u cymunedau ac fe wnaethom rannu ein un ni ac adeiladu rhwydwaith cryf ar gyfer y dyfodol. Dyma rai o uchafbwyntiau pob un o’r ymweliadau:

….Italy
CMW were invited by Immaginaria Coop Sociale Onlus to Procida, Italy, to spend the week working with community musicians from Georgia, Poland, Germany, Italy, Portugal & Serbia. The community musicians shared best practice in how they engaged with their communities as well as sharing culture and music. The highlight of the trip was the live community project which ran throughout the week with the diverse residents of the island, culminating in a performance at the central market square. Our staff and freelance tutors learned and shared new methods of working from the partners and were interested in how the partners used their cultural spaces for creative use.
..Eidal
Gwahoddwyd CGC gan Immaginaria Coop Sociale Onlus i Procida, yr Eidal, i dreulio'r wythnos yn gweithio gyda cherddorion cymunedol o Georgia, Gwlad Pwyl, yr Almaen, yr Eidal, Portiwgal a Serbia. Rhannodd y cerddorion cymunedol arfer gorau o ran y modd yr oeddent yn ymgysylltu â’u cymunedau yn ogystal â rhannu diwylliant a cherddoriaeth. Uchafbwynt y daith oedd y prosiect cymunedol byw a oedd yn rhedeg drwy gydol yr wythnos gyda thrigolion amrywiol yr ynys, gan ddiweddu gyda pherfformiad yn sgwâr y farchnad ganolog. Dysgodd a rhannodd ein staff a thiwtoriaid llawrydd ddulliau newydd o weithio gan y partneriaid ac roedd ganddynt ddiddordeb mewn sut roedd y partneriaid yn defnyddio eu gofodau diwylliannol ar gyfer defnydd creadigol.

….Australia
For the Australian leg of our journey, through Em Events, we were fortunate to spend time in the Northern Territories with the First Nation people on Groote Eylandt, a small island just off the coast of Northern Australia. CMW staff and tutors were welcomed into observe the rehearsals of a group of ladies from the community, who used their language, Anindilyakwa, to write songs and perform at the Darwin Festival. A collaboration between singer/song writer Dr. Shellie Morris and the Groote Eylandt Language Centre, the Yarnumamalyaayangkirrba-langwa project created an album entirely in their language of Anindilyakwa. Our tutors were hugely inspired to bring some of what they learned into their own practice, and we were struck by how music has the power to keep language, culture and history alive.
..Awstralia
Ar gyfer cymal Awstralia o'n taith, trwy Em Events, buom yn ffodus i dreulio amser yn Nhiriogaethau'r Gogledd gyda phobl y Genedl Gyntaf ar Groote Eylandt, ynys fechan ychydig oddi ar arfordir Gogledd Awstralia. Croesawyd staff a thiwtoriaid CGC i arsylwi ar ymarferion grŵp o ferched o’r gymuned, a ddefnyddiodd eu hiaith, Anindilyakwa, i ysgrifennu caneuon a pherfformio yng Ngŵyl Darwin. Ar y cyd rhwng y gantores/awdur Dr. Shellie Morris a Chanolfan Iaith Groote Eylandt, crewyd prosiect Yarnumamalyaayangkirrba-langwa, albwm yn gyfan gwbl yn eu hiaith Anindilyakwa. Cafodd ein tiwtoriaid eu hysbrydoli’n aruthrol i ddod â rhywfaint o’r hyn a ddysgon nhw i mewn i’w hymarfer eu hunain, a chawsom ein taro gan sut mae gan gerddoriaeth y pŵer i gadw iaith, diwylliant a hanes yn fyw.

….Portugal
Portuguese partner, AlbergAR-TE associação cultural, organises an Arts festival, Festival Dos Modos Nascem Coisasin, in Albergaria-a-Velha each year. This year, the organisation created a community orchestra, ‘Orquestra (In)Quieta’ in excess of 100 members of the community, including a wide range of groups and individuals. CMW staff and two of our early career tutors, had the opportunity to participate and perform as part of this annual Arts festival. A common theme that emerged, was how everyone was encouraged to join in, whatever their ability or experience. Music participation was at the forefront, everyone in the community, regardless of skill level or style of music, was encouraged to join in and given a place within the performance. We also loved how the traditional music of local fado musicians was mixed in with rock-based music genres, engaging the audience with familiar folk songs.
..Portiwal
Mae ein partner o Bortiwgal, AlbergAR-TE associação cultural, yn trefnu gŵyl Gelfyddydol, Festival Dos Modos Nascem Coisasin, yn Albergaria-a-Velha bob blwyddyn. Eleni, creodd y sefydliad gerddorfa gymunedol, ‘Orquestra (In)Quieta’ o fwy na 100 o aelodau’r gymuned, gan gynnwys ystod eang o grwpiau ac unigolion. Cafodd staff CMW a dau o’n tiwtoriaid ar ddechrau eu gyrfa gyfle i gymryd rhan a pherfformio fel rhan o’r ŵyl Gelfyddydau flynyddol hon. Thema gyffredin a ddaeth i’r amlwg oedd sut roedd pawb yn cael eu hannog i ymuno, beth bynnag fo’u gallu neu brofiad. Roedd cyfranogiad mewn cerddoriaeth yn flaenllaw, roedd pawb yn y gymuned, waeth beth fo lefel eu sgil neu arddull cerddoriaeth, yn cael eu hannog i ymuno a rhoddwyd lle iddynt yn y perfformiad. Roeddem hefyd wrth ein bodd â’r modd yr oedd cerddoriaeth draddodiadol cerddorion fado lleol yn cael ei chymysgu â genres cerddoriaeth roc, gan ennyn diddordeb y gynulleidfa â chaneuon gwerin cyfarwydd.

….Ireland
A bit closer to home, we were excited to visit our neighbours in Ireland. CMW staff and tutors were invited to Edenderry, by our partner organisation Creative Lives: Edenderry, which sits in County Offaly. We took part in various drop-in community music workshops, delivered by Creative lives, as well as meeting other locally based community musicians who shared how they deliver their own practice. We spent an afternoon at the library listening to an acoustic set from local musicians, Radar The Band and visited the Youth Café to meet other young musicians. We visited Eden FM for a chat about the project and how we came to partner with Creative Places. Our tutors also had the opportunity to teach the community members songs in the Welsh language, which everyone enjoyed. We met a lot of inspirational people who made us feel very welcome.
..Iwerddon
Ychydig yn nes adref, roeddem wrth ein bodd yn ymweld â'n cymdogion yn Iwerddon. Gwahoddwyd staff a thiwtoriaid CGC i Edenderry, gan ein partneriaid yno Creative Lives: Edenderry, sydd wedi’i lleoli yn Sir Offaly. Buom yn cymryd rhan mewn gweithdai cerddoriaeth gymunedol amrywiol, a gyflwynwyd gan Creative Lives, yn ogystal â chwrdd â cherddorion cymunedol lleol eraill a rannodd sut maent yn cyflwyno eu harfer eu hunain. Treulion ni brynhawn yn y llyfrgell yn gwrando ar set acwstig gan gerddorion lleol, Radar Y Band ac ymweld â’r Caffi Ieuenctid i gwrdd â cherddorion ifanc eraill. Aethom i Eden FM am sgwrs am y prosiect a sut y daethom i bartneru gyda Creative Lives. Cafodd ein tiwtoriaid hefyd gyfle i ddysgu caneuon Cymraeg i aelodau’r gymuned, a cafwyd llawer o hwyl yn y broses. Fe wnaethon ni gwrdd â llawer o bobl ysbrydoledig a wnaeth i ni deimlo bod croeso mawr i ni.

….Finland
For our Finland journey, we spent time with award winning organisation Kukunori ry, an association for culture and mental health based in Helsinki. As well as learning about the work of the organisation, we were interested in exploring their ‘Culturehouse’ model. This is a combination of peer support and creative activities, supporting young adults suffering with their mental health. CMW staff also had the opportunity to visit other Finnish community arts initiatives and cultural /educational institutions including the Sibelius Academy which is one of the largest music academies in Europe and Resonaari, a music centre which provides expertise around inclusive music education. Finally, we met with The Outsider Arts Festival, a hugely inspiring initiative which invites everybody to celebrate equality and gives a voice to outsider artists.
..Ffindir
Ar gyfer ein taith yn y Ffindir, treuliasom amser gyda'r sefydliad arobryn Kukunori ry, cymdeithas diwylliant ac iechyd meddwl yn Helsinki. Yn ogystal â dysgu am waith y sefydliad, roedd gennym ddiddordeb mewn archwilio eu model ‘Culture House’. Mae hwn yn gyfuniad o gefnogaeth gan gymheiriaid a gweithgareddau creadigol, gan gefnogi oedolion ifanc sy'n dioddef o'u hiechyd meddwl. Cafodd staff CGC hefyd y cyfle i ymweld â mentrau celfyddydau cymunedol eraill yn y Ffindir a sefydliadau diwylliannol/addysgol gan gynnwys Academi Sibelius sy'n un o academïau cerdd mwyaf Ewrop a Resonaari, canolfan gerddoriaeth sy'n darparu arbenigedd mewn addysg gerddoriaeth gynhwysol. Yn olaf, cawsom gyfarfod â Gŵyl Gelfyddydau’r ‘Outsider Art’, menter hynod ysbrydoledig sy’n gwahodd pawb i ddathlu cydraddoldeb a rhoi llais i artistiaid sydd ddim yn rhan o brif ffrwd y byd celf.

….Croeso i Gymru
Finally, we had the privilege to show our international partners some of Wales by inviting representatives from all the organisations, to spend time here with us. Partners spent time in discussion around community music best practice, future partnership working and common themes of inclusion and language. We took delegates to visit some of our community music projects, meet some of our local partners and visit other like-minded arts organisations. We even managed to show our guests a taste of Wales with trips that included Eryri National park, Caernarfon, Old Colwyn, St Fagans national museum, Southerndown beach, Caerphilly Castle, the Senedd, and the WMC. All finished off with a musical evening in Canton at The Corp's Thursday Jam night. We are now building towards the future through developing these partnerships further and looking at further ways to collaborate.
..Croeso I Gymru
Yn olaf, cawsom y fraint o ddangos rhywfaint o Gymru i’n partneriaid rhyngwladol drwy wahodd cynrychiolwyr o’r holl sefydliadau, i dreulio amser yma gyda ni. Treuliodd partneriaid amser yn trafod arfer gorau cerddoriaeth gymunedol, gweithio mewn partneriaeth yn y dyfodol a themâu cyffredin fel cynhwysiant ac iaith. Aethom â’r cynrychiolwyr i ymweld â rhai o’n prosiectau cerddoriaeth gymunedol, cyfarfod â rhai o’n partneriaid lleol ac ymweld â sefydliadau celfyddydol eraill o’r un meddylfryd. Llwyddom i ddangos blas o Gymru i’n gwesteion gyda theithiau a oedd yn cynnwys Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri, Caernarfon, Hen Golwyn, amgueddfa genedlaethol Sain Ffagan, traeth Southerndown, Castell Caerffili, y Senedd, a Chanolfan Mileniwn Cymru. Gorffennom ni gyda noson gerddorol o jamio yn Nhreganna yn noson Jam wythnosol y Corp. Rydym nawr yn adeiladu tuag at y dyfodol trwy ddatblygu'r partneriaethau hyn ymhellach ac edrych ar ffyrdd pellach o gydweithio.
